Epithet for Dawn

Epithet for Dawn is a sculptural series developed in response to Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey, particularly her recurring epithets for Dawn. The work reconsiders the amphora, historically a vessel of labor, storage, and ritual, as a contemporary site of feminine presence and material memory.

Each form is hand-thrown in black stoneware and fired to a deep matte surface that absorbs light. While materially consistent, the vessels vary in scale and proportion, allowing repetition to register through subtle shifts rather than duplication.

The series engages themes of endurance, visibility, and transformation, positioning the vessel as an architectural body that carries both myth and lived experience.
